She was unable to sleep, so at the call, Wovenbasket immediately ran over to Rowanstar. She would never tell anyone, it would be too embarrassing, but she liked him, and as more than just a friend. But yet they were still nothing more than just that. Friends.
The word had never seemed so cruel and depressing, in fact, it seemed anything but that. Of course, up until that's all you had. No mate, nor lover. No family to raise as your own. All around her, Wovenbasket's friends were having kits, or shared with her the news that they had found a mate, and all that time she had spent longing. Oh, the looks on the others faces if announced that she was pregnant with the leader's kits. But that day would never come, because Rowanstar would have return the feelings.
Noticing she was still yet to say anything, Wovenbasket looked at Rowanstar. "Yeah?" Oh, how she wished that she could've said something like, "I really, really like you." Of course, though, she had failed to find the courage, as she had so often before.
